Update: 2000/03/31 Why does my Pentium 3 processor show up as a Pentium 2 in the "System Properties"? This issue is for   Pentium 3 Processor Windows 98 Windows 98 was written before this processor was available. It will identify the Pentium 3 as a Pentium 2 because the operating system does not recognize the difference. This will not affect the performance of the new processor within Windows.
