Installing Windows NT Workstation 4.0

To install the driver
Preparing for Installation
  Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD (CD-ROM)
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Setup Disk 1-3 (Floppy Disk)
Device drivers (Floppies or System CD or both)
Promise Ultra66 Drivers Disk (Floppy Disk)

    Procedure with pictures

  1. After your computer restarts, a message "Please select the operating system to start" appears.  Select the upper line [Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00], then press [Enter].

  2. The [Windows NT Setup] window appears.  A message prompts to insert the disk.  Insert Windows NT Workstation CD, then click [OK].

  3. The [File Needed] window may appear.  In this case, make sure that [D:\i386] is typed in "Copy files from" text box, then click [OK].

    [D:] represents a letter of CD/DVD-ROM drive and vary in each system.  If [D:] seems not to be a name of CD/DVD-ROM drive, please try another letter, [E:], [F:] and so on.

  4. The [Windows NT Setup] window appears with [1)Gathering information about your computer] highlighted.  Click [Next].

  5. The [Setup Options] window appears.  Select "Typical" and then click [Next].

  6. The [Name and Organization] window appears.  Type your name in [Name] text box, and your organization in [Organization] text box if you need.  Then click [Next].

  7. The [Registration] window appears.  Type the Profuct ID, which is printed on the front of your [Microsoft Windows NT Workstation] booklet, then click [Next].

  8. The [Administrator Account] window appears.  Type the password for the Administrator account if you need, then click [Next].

  9. The [Emergency Repair Disk] window appears.  Click [No, do not create an emergency repair disk], as you can create one after setup, then click [Next].

  10. The [Windows NT Components] window appears.  Click [Install the most common components (recommended)], then click [Next].

  11. The [Windows NT Setup] window appears with [2) Installing Windows NT Networking] highlighted.  Click [Next].

  12. A message [Window NT needs to know how this computer should participate on a network.] appears.  Click [Do not connect this computer to a network at this time], as you can set the network configuration after setup, then click [Next].

  13. The [Windows NT Setup] window appears with [3) Finishing Setup] highlighted.  Click [Finish].

  14. The [Date/Time Properties] window appears.  Select [(GMT+09:00) Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Seoul, Yakutsk] from [Time Zone], then click [Close].

  15. The [Detected Display] window appears.  Click [OK].

  16. The [Display Properties] window appears.  Click [OK].

  17. Windows NT Setup starts to copy files.  Wait still for a moment.

  18. The [Windows NT Setup] window appears.  Eject Windows NT Workstation CD from the CD/DVD-ROM drive, then click [Restart Computer].

  19. After your computer restarts, [OS Loader] appears.  Select the upper line [Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00], then press [Enter].

  20. The [Begin Logon] window appears.  Press [Ctrl], [Alt] and [Delete] key at the same time.

  21. The [Logon Information] window appears.  Make sure [Administrator] is typed in [User name] text box, and type the password which you have set during setup.  Then click [OK].

    If you did not set the password for the Administrator account, leave [Password] text box blank, then click [OK].

  22. The [Welcome] window appears.  Click [Close], or [What's New] and [Help Contents] if you need.  This completes Windows NT Workstation installation.



    Next step is Installing Service Pack.
