Microsoft Windows 98 Upgrade installation

Outline
When a problem occurs into your computer, you might need to use this Instllation Guide to reinstall Windows 98.

To install the driver
Preparing for Installation
  Microsoft Windows 95 (CD-ROM)
Microsoft Windows 98 Upgrade(CD-ROM)
Device drivers (Floppies or System Restration CD or both)
Blank formatted floppy disk

  1. Insert the Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM in the CD/DVD-ROM drive and restart the computer.

  2. Choose [2. Boot from CD-ROM] and press [Enter] key.

  3. Choose [2. Start computer with CD-ROM support] and press [Enter] key.  The [A:\>] appears.

  4. Type [X:] after the [A:\>] and press [ENTER] key.  Then [X:\>] appears.

    [X:] represents a letter of CD/DVD-ROM drive and vary in each system.  If you do not know a letter of your CD/DVD-ROM drive, see at the top of the screen. There is a name of CD/DVD-ROM drive like (D:),(E:),(R:), and so on.

  5. Type [setup] after the [X:\>] and press [ENTER] key.

  6. Press [ENTER] key.  Starting MS-DOS version of Scandisk.

  7. After it is completed, Scandisk reports if any errors found.  Press [->] key to select [Exit] and press [ENTER] key.  The [Windows 98 setup] appears.

  8. Click [Continue].  The [License Agreement] appears.

  9. In order to continue for the installation, select [I accept the agreement], then click [Next].  The [Product Key] appears.

  10. Type in [Product ID] which is written on the cover page of the booklet [Introducing Windows98 for distribution with a new PC only], which came with your Windows 98 Upgrade CD-ROM.  After the Product Key has been entered and click [OK].  The [Upgrade Compliance Check] appears.

  11. Insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM in the CD/DVD-ROM drive, type [X:], and click [Next].  The [Windows 98 Setup] appears.

  12. Re-insert the Windows 98 Upgrade CD-ROM in the CD/DVD-ROM drive, and click [OK].  The [Select Directory] appears.

  13. Click [Next].  The wizard prepares for the Windows 98 directory and verifies there is enough space to install Windows 98 on the hard disk.  The [Setup Options] appears.

  14. The recommended installation is [Typical].  Click [Next].  The [User Information] appears.

  15. Type the name and company, then click [Next].  The [Windows Components] appears.  The default is [Install the most common components].

  16. Click [Next].  The [Identification] appears.

  17. If the computer is not on a network, click [Next].  The [Establishing your location] appears.

  18. Choose [Japan] and click [Next].  The [Startup Disk] appears.

  19. Click [Next].  When a blank disk is required by [Insert Disk], it into your floppy drive and click [OK].

  20. The [Windows 98 Startup Disk] appears.   Click [OK].   The [Start Copying Files] appears.

  21. Click [Next].  After the process is finished, the system will reboot automatically.  The [Date & Time Properties] appears.

  22. Choose the local time and click [Close].  Again, the system will reboot automatically.

  23. The installation wizard check for other Plug and Play hardware.   The system will reboot automatically.

  24. When the computer restarts, the installation wizard will continue to update the Start up Configuration files.   Prompt window required a password. In a driver installation phase, cancel all [Device Driver Wizard].

  25. When the Desktop and [Welcome to Windows] appears, it is ready to use Windows 98.
